Post #1 - Self-Thoughts Activity Journal Inner conversations guide the thoughts and actions of our students, but many of these conversations remain undiscussed, challenged, or explored without judgement, sometimes leading to a state of hopelessness. To allow these inner conversations a medium for escaping the minds of our students in a helpful way, a Self-Thoughts Activity Journal can be used. The questions and reflection space below can help guide this conversation and can be discussed in Career Counseling sessions, but should be completed in a couple minutes in the spirit of not over-thinking or allowing judgement to influence content produced. The role of the Career Counselor is to help the student further explore the questions and encourage thoughtful reflection. Activity 1: Self-Thoughts Journal Activity To gain clarity in your inner conversations, start maintaining a daily journal. Try to record at least a few thoughts each day. Begin right now by recording a few words for each of these questions: 1. In what ways do you encourage yourself? __________________________________________________________________________________ 2. In what ways do you discourage yourself? __________________________________________________________________________________ 3. What positive statements do you make about yourself? __________________________________________________________________________________ 4. Conversely, what negative statements do you tell yourself? __________________________________________________________________________________ 5. In what ways do you feel you do not measure up? __________________________________________________________________________________ 6. What are your strengths? __________________________________________________________________________________ 7. What would some who loves you say are your strengths? __________________________________________________________________________________ 8. Where do you find enjoyment in activities? __________________________________________________________________________________ 9. What sort of activities do you prefer to avoid? __________________________________________________________________________________ 10. What do you hope for in your life? __________________________________________________________________________________ 11. What do you fear? __________________________________________________________________________________ We will look into hopefulness measurement in our next blog post. Subscribe to stay in the know!
